CAMERA CLUB
Contact: Dennis Jones 0418 443 494
Was formed in August 2007 by a group of people keen to develop and share their photographic knowledge and skills. Our membership ranges from individuals who have just acquired a brand new digital camera, to others who have many years experience with film and or digital and who are keen to share their knowledge.
Acceptance of this concept has been tremendous, with over 60 fully paid up members in a very short time. We are still evolving and aim to provide our members with as much of what they are looking for in their club as possible. Entry is open to all and to all ages; we have members who range from their early twenties, to ‘quite mature’.
We aim to provide a positive environment for members to share their passion for photography and to develop individual photographic skills through presentations, lectures, workshops, competitions and photographically oriented social activities.
We aim to cultivate and broaden the photographic interests of our members, by exposing them to as wide a mix of styles and mediums as possible, and to provide education, guidance, competition and social interaction.
DYRSL Camera Club will strive to provide a relaxed, informal meeting environment free from any traditional constraints or limitation of photographic style.
The Organisation
The club is run by a committee comprising President, Secretary, Treasurer and several committee members looking after specific areas like technology and equipment, membership, marketing and education.
Elections for office bearers are held at the Annual General Meeting of the club in July each year. Annual subscriptions are payable every July.
Meetings
DYRSL have been very supportive of our Club and provide us with marvelous facilities for our meetings, as well as some on-going financial support. We meet every second Wednesday from 7.30 pm - 9.30 pm usually in the Level 3 Meeting Room or one of the other comfortable function rooms within Dee Why RSL Club.
Outings and Social Events
We are scheduling photographic outings and social events throughout the year and to date have had a couple of successful photographic outings as well as a members with partner/family picnic. We intend to organize visits to photographic exhibitions and other relevant shows during the coming months.
Skills
Because our club comprises many skill levels, we are the ideal place for people interested in photography to share and learn from others. We have regular information evenings where those skilled in a particular area present to the club and by association with other members, various tricks and tips are shared.
Photography is an ever changing technology and skill, so we encourage you to learn as much as you can by subscribing to photographic magazines, reading photography books and by visiting photographic exhibitions and galleries.
In addition to self-learning, there are some very good courses run by local evening colleges in digital photography and computer skills related to photography.
Participation
Assisting with the growth and smooth running of our club can be a very rewarding experience and we welcome all members to contribute with their skills, time, organisational abilities, whether serving on the committee or in other ways.
Facilities
Currently our club has purchased a laptop computer, a screen calibration device, a projector for projecting digital photos and we also have special easels for displaying prints for viewing. More equipment is on our wish list for when funds become available.
With this equipment and the great meeting rooms provided by DYRSL, we have the facilities to go forward and grow as a credible camera club for our existing and new members.
